Dealing with lower back pain can be… well, awful. The possible causes are many and vary from person to person. Back pain often develops without a cause that your doctor can identify with a test or an imaging study.
The one common factor in lower back pain is often INFLAMMATION. Allowing the area to calm down, and muscles and soft tissue to relax is the first step to feeling better. Throw in some additional support to help with the overall weakened area and you are well on your way to being yourself again. CannaTape Sport tape is able to achieve all this by addressing exercise-induced inflammation of the soft muscle tissue where 90% of athletic injuries occur. By targeting our formula’s CBD (from industrial hemp) benefit’s through the use of Kinesiology tape, this application method helps to increase blood flow and provides added stability, while the cooling sensation of menthol and pure peppermint oil work to help relieve minor aches and pains.
As we are all fully aware - with all sports, a strong, flexible, and healthy core is fundamental to optimal performance. An athlete’s core is a center of strength, balance, and mobility. If the core muscles aren’t performing, movements end up tentative, or worse, dangerous to the back. That is why preventive health and quick recovery are so important.
And lower back pain isn’t unique to only elite athletes, many people deal with lower back issues and pain at one time or another. Current lifestyle is a prime reason lower back pain is so common. The body just isn’t meant to sit for long periods of time while we stare at a screen.
In addition to weak core, certain medical conditions commonly linked to back pain include:
- Muscle or ligament strain. Sudden awkward movement or repeated heavy lifting can strain back muscles and spinal ligaments. Especially if you are in poor physical condition, constant strain on the lower back (like sitting at a desk) can cause painful muscle spasms.
- Bulging or ruptured disks. Disks act as padding between the vertebrae in the spine. The soft material inside a disk can bulge or rupture and press on a nerve sometimes causing severe pain.
- Arthritis. Osteoarthritis can quite often affect the lower back. In some cases, arthritis in the spine can lead to a narrowing of the space around the spinal cord, a condition called spinal stenosis.
- Osteoporosis. The spine's vertebrae can develop painful fractures if bones become porous and brittle.
Where does CannaTape Sport come into the picture?Life’s disruptions due to pain or injury can be frustrating. Current household remedies such as ice, elevation, compression, and rest oftentimes involve a long recovery period. Alternatively, reliance on over-the-counter medications (e.g. NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen) or prescribed products (e.g. corticosteroids such as cortisone) while effective... can lead to well-documented side effects.
But our CBD + Kinesiology tape provides an all-natural product that combined with our transdermal formula (patent pending) helps deliver pain relief right to where you need it most. The cooling sensation of menthol and the refreshing scent of peppermint oil help relieve aches and pains. We are able to target our product with the tape as Kinesiology tape is proven to increase blood flow and provide added stability all of which is so important when it comes to the lower back. Lastly, prevention is really your best option. So, regularly applying CannaTape Sport before and after exercise is an excellent course of action for an already “touchy” back.
CannaTape Sport is ideal, when correctly applied, for lower back pain. Our products provide relief and help the body find a path to recovery.
Check out our expanded CannaTape Sport application instructions and don’t forget: always consult with your doctor or health care provider when you are experiencing pain and before beginning any remedy.
How to apply:
To get the maximum benefit from CannaTape Sport, correct application technique and timing are key. Absorption of our transdermal ingredients into soft tissue and the bloodstream before and after workouts increases the effectiveness of our specially formulated ingredients.
CBD by nature is a long-acting inflammation fighter, elevating CBD levels over time is key. Just like taking Vitamin C can help during flu season, it’s not effective to take it after you have already caught a cold.
For best results, apply CannaTape Sport tape at least 2 hours before a workout, and (if the tape is damaged during a workout) reapply post-workout. Also, refer to our CannaTape Sport Pro Tips for preparing the area of skin before taping.
Bend forward at the waist at a 35-degree angle. Anchor a single strip of CannaTape Sport tape at the lower back right next to the spine, just above the gluteus maximus (or a few inches below where your waistband would sit). Avoid stretching the last 2 inches of the tape’s end. This ensures a secure bond with the skin, creating a solid anchor point without losing adhesion or pulling on the skin.
For the most effective CannaTape Sport tape tension, stretch to the desired application area and then release 20% of the tension of the tape before application. This ensures the tape is providing proper bond and tension during all positions of movement.
To create a well-bonded stretch, use your thumb and/or index finger applying pressure evenly across the length of each applied strip of tape, sliding upward along the spine.
Remaining in the 35-degree bent position, repeat this application on the other side of the spine.
Because our adhesive is heat-activated, for an even and firm adhesion, rub tape vigorously on the skin for 10-15 seconds with fingers or the palm. In some cases, applying targeted air using a warm (not hot) setting from a hairdryer can prove effective for creating additional warmth.
Once the two vertical tape applications are secure to the skin, apply a third strip horizontally across the lower back along the area of discomfort and over the two previously applied strips. Remember to anchor the first 2 inches then stretch the tape and release 20% as you press the tape down to the skin. Release all tension in the last two inches. Follow by rubbing the tape warming adhesive for a secure bond, especially at corners.
Once applied, CannaTape Sport tape can remain in place and continue to be effective for up to 3 - 4 days before you need to replace it. If the corners lose bond from the skin, simply trim the loose tape with scissors and rub the remaining tape back onto the skin.
For some hard-to-reach areas of the body (like the lower back), working with a partner to apply tape will ensure a more effective application.
Note: CannaTape Sport has Vitamin E and Tea Tree Oil that aids in skin health, so prolonged use isn’t as hard on skin health.
